The Boys & Girls Club of North Mississippi has been serving youth ages 6-18 since 1996. Oxford’s Clubhouse, the L.O.U. Barksdale Clubhouse, was opened in 2006. Led by Director, Kenorus Wilson, the club provides local children a safe place to go after school and during the summer months.

This month’s Interior Decorator Spotlight is Amanda McGown, an interior designer at SummerHouse in Oxford. SummerHouse opened its doors in Ridgeland, MS 18 years ago and decided to open another store in 2016 in Oxford. SummerHouse is a full service interior design firm with a showroom that showcases about 10% of what’s available to their clients. They have a fantastic fabric and wallpaper library in their store. They strive to offer quality design services and furnishings at various price points. Our feature designer, Amanda McGown, joined the SummerHouse team of Oxford in 2021.

We asked Wayne Andrews, Executive Director of the Yoknapatawpha Arts Council, “Why should we have an arts council in our community?” He shared, “Arts Councils are an important part of any town by providing artists with resources and community members with access. Arts Councils provide support to local artists whether it’s through grants, physical teaching or studio space, festival opportunities, or continuing education. They are also a major driver of economic development in our community.”
