Oxford’s newest gathering spot has officially opened its doors, and it’s answering two different daily cravings under one roof. Located in The Pearl at Oxford Commons, Yoby made its debut on September 17, 2026, introducing a fresh, hybrid concept designed to anchor both early-morning school runs and late-night dessert outings.

This month, we’re proud to turn our spotlight on 2nd Chance MS, an incredible Mississippi nonprofit dedicated to opening doors, creating real opportunities, and transforming lives right here in our state.

The mission of 2nd Chance MS is to raise awareness and funds for adult education and vocational skill training programs for lower-income adults in Mississippi, and provide support to the lower-income adults participating in such programs, for the purpose of helping these adults get and keep a good, stable, non-minimum-wage-earning job.

Opened in June 2025 and named after Estelle Faulkner—wife of Oxford’s legendary Nobel laureate, William Faulkner—the restaurant sits right beside Faulkner’s Alley, occupying a space steeped in Southern literary history.

The Oxford Civic Chorus holds a special place in our heart, as Brooke was its Artistic Director for 5 years and sang in the choir while in college. It was founded in 1998 by University of Mississippi music department professor, Dr. Martha Hitch, and senior music student, Gabriel Statom. This excellent community chorus has been inspiring singers, enriching the community and expanding musical horizons ever since!

She recognized that Oxford and the surrounding communities lacked a place where children could engage in meaningful play year-round. Inspired to fill that gap, she set out to create Totsford — a kid-sized version of Oxford — a space where kids could grow, explore, and thrive.
