Neighborhood Business Highlight: Good Neighbor

At the heart of Oxford, Mississippi, Good Neighbor is more than a home repair business—it’s a story of calling, compassion, and community.

Founded by Matt Hackworth and co-owned by his son Noah Hackworth, Good Neighbor brings a unique blend of craftsmanship, care, and purpose to every project. Noah, who lives with autism, plays a big part in the business’s mission. At just nine years old, he launched Hackworth Vacuums, a repair service now operating as a division of Good Neighbor. He’s already repaired vacuums across three states and continues to impress with his expertise and precision. Customers in Oxford say business has never been better.

Matt’s journey began far from toolboxes and trim. With a background in journalism and over 16 years working in global nonprofit ministry, including faith-based refugee relief work, Matt felt called to serve in a new way. “I never saw myself going into business,” he said. “But I’ve always thrived on being of service to other human beings.”

That heart for people is the foundation of Good Neighbor. Whether it's building custom bookshelves, clearing dryer vents, or helping reimagine a family’s bonus room, the Hackworths approach each job with intentionality and grace. “You’re in a person’s intimate space—where they feel safe. That takes trust, and I don’t take that lightly,” Matt shared. “I consider it nothing less than sacred.”

Their services go far beyond just repairs. Good Neighbor offers support across in-home service, home improvement, and real estate-related needs. From small fixes like door locks and trim work to larger remodels like fencing and patio doors, they handle it all.

What makes Good Neighbor thrive, especially in a place like Oxford? Matt believes it’s the town’s strong sense of connection. “I can’t imagine having this kind of success anywhere else. Oxford has a high degree of turnaround, and I hope my own experiences help me understand what families are facing when they move here.”

As Matt beautifully summed it up:
“We want to be good neighbors. That’s the only way I know how to carry this forward—by helping others on their journey.”
