Neighborhood Business Highlight: Matchbox Matcha

In late April 2026, a new business centered around a now-staple drink became a reality. Matchbox Matcha has become a fun new spot in Oxford with a passion for educating the community on the world of matcha and sharing their love for it. Owner Morgan Pennington uses her expertise to craft beautiful drinks using fresh, in-house ingredients like homemade syrups. With matcha’s growing popularity—especially among college students—this shop is a perfect addition to Oxford.

Matchbox Matcha offers plenty of variety. For purists, they serve a Classic Matcha, while newcomers can enjoy creative flavor combinations like the "Matcha Blush," made with homemade strawberry puree and vanilla. Beyond crafting gorgeous lattes with high-quality green tea powder, the shop also offers matcha protein bites, bagels, cheese straws, and coffee options, ensuring there is something for everyone.

Tucked in the alleyway between The Lyric and South Depot, you’ll find their service window. The name Matchbox Matcha was born during brainstorming sessions as a nod to the cozy size of the space. Morgan has been overwhelmed by the community's positive response and support since opening this refreshing spot.

If you need a colorful pick-me-up, stop by Wednesday through Saturday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM (or until they sell out!).

This hidden gem is also participating in "Bit of The Sip," where you can catch them at the Matcha and Mat Pilates event at the Old Armory Pavilion on August 8th.
