Neighborhood Business Highlight: Shop Mary Bee

Owner, Lindsey Mitchell

Lindsey Mitchell has spent most of her life in the retail business. Shop Mary Bee, an all online clothes and accessories boutique, was inspired by her grandmother, Mary Lee. Lindsey shared, “My grandmother Mary Lee Beck is the inspiration for the name and for the ideas behind it. As girls, my sister and I spent hours at her house, watching her sew beautiful skirts, dresses, pillows, drapes, etc. She taught my sister and I the importance of presenting yourself in all ways in the best way possible. Professionally, physically, spiritually...show up looking "smart" and with the proper undergarments on!” So, now Lindsey inspires other women through her Shop Mary Bee online site!

Lindsey first opened Shop Mary Bee in 2019, but decided to close to work full-time at Oxford Eye Clinic. As a wife and mother of two, she re-opened this summer with a slightly different business plan that works with her full-time job and her family. When I asked Lindsey to explain her business model, she shared, “I'm an online based clothes and accessory boutique designed to help busy women shop on their own time. I try to offer a variety of styles for all of the different places we as women find ourselves...usually work, sometimes brunch, sometimes a fancy date! I strive to be as size inclusive as I can by offering sizes 0-24 and Small-3X in many of the styles I stock. I load new items several times per week. Some items I have in stock, but most ship directly from the vendors I source the styles from. Shipping the items this way allows me to keep the business fresh and, most importantly, allows me more precious time with my family.”

We asked Lindsey what she loves most about her business and she shared, “I've worked retail for most of my life. I started at 16 and I'm now 42 and the same thing still lights me up...I love seeing women find things that make them feel beautiful and more comfortable in their own skin. We all move through our day differently and treat others just a little bit better when we feel good about ourselves. I'm not saying that a cute dress can make the world a better place all on its own, but it sure doesn't hurt!”

Shop Mary Bee is currently running an exclusive coupon for teachers. Teachers just need to reach out directly to Lindsey on Shop Mary Bee social media pages. Facebook: Shop Mary Bee. Instagram: @shopmarybee. TikTok: @shopmarybee.

We ask our Neighborhood businesses how the Oxford and Lafayette county real estate market affects them. Lindsey shared, “We are so lucky to live in Oxford. Every day is a new day here...so many new fresh faces arrive daily. With that comes new opportunity for small businesses daily, as well! Our town feels alive and it’s a great place to open and grow a new business!”

We are so grateful to Lindsey for inspiring women through fashion and helping to make the world a better place one cute dress at a time! You can shop online at shopmarybee.com and be sure to follow her business on Facebook at Shop Mary Bee, TikTok @shopmarybee and Instagram @shopmarybee. And remember, as Lindsey says, “Life is full of so many things to worry about….let’s work together to help you feel comfortable in your skin and to feel proud of the way you show up in life!”
