Neighborhood Business Highlight: Community Donuts

Community Donuts came to University Avenue in November 2019 and hasn’t slowed, even with the 2020 pandemic. Chantha Tan, owner, knows the key to success is showing kindness, building community and, of course, sharing sweet treats!

Chantha Tan is from Cambodia but has lived in Tennessee for a great part of her life. She’s been in the donut business for ten years. She was offered the opportunity to open Community Donuts when her friend decided to close her previous donut store in Oxford. Business has been more than steady since she opened. Tan shared, “I love my customers. Everyone is so sweet and nice. They truly are lovely people. I love getting to share my space and my donuts with them.”

The most popular treat is the glazed donut. Her baker starts each morning at 2:00 am. Tan shared, “We make all of our donuts from scratch every day and they are always fresh.” She even has a Texas favorite, Kolaches, which she says many of her customers enjoy the most, but the glazed donut is by far the most popular.

We ask our Neighborhood businesses how the Oxford and Lafayette county real estate market affects them. Tan shared, “Business has been good and real estate definitely doesn’t hurt my business. I have many college students that come in because the food is cheap and they can afford it! They love to bring their parents in with them, and I hear them say, ‘Community Donuts is my store.’ They feel at home here.”
