Neighborhood Business Highlight: Common Ground Coffee Bar

Joseph Beck traveled the world as a Green Beret in the Army Special Forces. Throughout his travels, he quickly learned to judge a culture by four things: the food, the hospitality, the music and the coffee. Beck recently shared, “Coffee is something that brings people together. I wanted my coffee shop to be for everyone and for all customers to feel welcome.” And he’s created that atmosphere in his coffee shop, Common Ground Coffee Bar.

Common Ground Coffee Bar opened its doors July 16, 2020 in the Oxford Commons area. The idea for the name came about as a way to describe people coming together or finding common ground. Beck shared, “I really enjoy meeting and talking with everyone, whether it is the locals or people driving through town. It is rewarding to be able to serve the community by giving them their daily fix!” Located just off Hwy 7 North on Ed Perry Blvd., it has easy on and off access to the highway. We asked Beck what he loves most about his location and he shared, “We are in a very popular and convenient area. We have hotels, schools, and, of course, our Oxford Commons neighbors.”

Common Ground Coffee Bar serves wonderful coffee. Beck chose Crimson Cup from Columbus, Ohio as his roaster due to their never-ending effort to study and refine the coffee roasting business. In addition to coffee (whether hot, iced, or frozen), they also serve specialty teas and smoothies, breakfast burritos and sandwiches, Baked by Blue pastries, bagels and a few lunch sandwiches.

We ask our Neighborhood businesses how the Oxford and Lafayette county real estate market affects them. Beck shared, “We get people from all over Oxford. I want everyone who lives in Oxford to come try our coffee. So, every house built or purchased in Oxford yields a potential customer that we would love to have at Common Ground Coffee Bar.”
