25th Anniversary: Double Decker Arts Festival

It’s been 2 years since the last Double Decker Arts Festival, and we could not be any more excited that it’s happening the weekend of April 22-23 on the Oxford Square!

Lee Ann Stubbs, Double Decker Arts Festival Coordinator, is so happy it will actually happen this year! She and her team at Visit Oxford start preparing for each year’s Double Decker Festival as soon as the previous year’s festival ends. But this 25th anniversary festival has been in the works for almost 3 years!

I don’t know if the over 65,000 attendees each year know how HARD this team at Visit Oxford work to bring this 2-day festival to life! Of course, the preparation is one thing. Choosing the 10 musical acts, the 140 art vendors, the numerous food/drink vendors, finding sponsors, choosing the artist to create the festival’s “official art” each year (by the way, it’s Hannah McCormick) – So. Much. Work. And, they work the 2-day festival from start to finish. Lee Ann shared, “My favorite part of the weekend is when the last musical act takes the stage. Our staff usually views this act back stage from the stage. I love to see the crowd having fun and enjoying the music and knowing that we made this happen! Definitely makes my heart happy!”

Do you know they NEED volunteers to help run the festival each year? You could be a part of Double Decker! Lee Ann shared, “We have the volunteer sign up ready for the weekend of activities and would love y’all to be a part of the 25th anniversary. Please visit the link to sign up. A required training meeting for all volunteers will be held Wednesday, April 20th at 4:00 p.m. at the Visit Oxford office.  We would love for anyone and everyone to sign up for a shift!”

Let’s make sure we know WHO this Visit Oxford team is: Kinney Ferris, Executive Director; Jessica Lynch, Partnerships Manager; Nadia Thornton, Marketing and Sales Manager; Hanna Teevan, Digital Content Manager; Lee Ann Stubbs, Double Decker Arts Festival Coordinator; and Laine Mitchell, Office Administrator. A HUGE THANK YOU for bringing to life one of our favorite events of the year and, quite frankly, one of our favorite things about Oxford.
