6 Best Fall Yard Maintenance Tips
As the weather gets cooler, the days get shorter and the sights and sounds of SEC football fill our Saturdays, we know Fall has arrived! With the start of Fall, it’s a good idea to prepare your yard for the winter ahead. Here are some great ideas from realtor.com.
1. Leave lawn and tree clippings where they fall. Instead of trashing these clippings or leaving them at the curb for removal, consider putting them in a “green” bin or leaving them where they fall to help enrich the soil.
2. Clean your gutters. This could be one of the most important Fall yard maintenance items! Not cleaning your gutters regularly could cause damage to your roof, fascia boards, and can even cause foundation damage from overflowing of water from your gutters.
3. Consider composting. Composting is a process that converts plant materials such as grass clippings and leaves to a more usable organic soil addition or mulch. Generally, compost piles contain coffee grounds, fruits, vegetables, eggshells, yard waste, nutshells and more.
4. Take care of your critter problems. A pest-proof home doesn’t exist, but you can help to keep them away by doing a few things around the home. Remove or relocate bushes or trees that are against the home. Examine your crawl space and block any hole or entry point. Clean up clutter (furniture, tools, etc.) around the home and make sure they are not up against the home.
5. Water your lawn. Experts say your lawn should get 1 to 1.5 inches of water a week during the Fall.
6. Target and kill weeds. Weeds are always a problem and you want to take care of them early on before they take over your lawn.
7. Consider decorating for the holidays! Halloween and Thanksgiving are wonderful Fall holidays that can spark joy with lively and lovely home decorating projects.
