Neighborhood Philanthropy: Visit Oxford

Oxford is host to some wonderful non-profit organizations that provide for our community in so many ways. We want to provide a glimpse of these organizations each month. The City of Oxford’s Tourism Council was created to increase and promote economic development in the community as well as cultivate a strong cultural life in Oxford. Visit Oxford does so much for our community, including planning, promoting and working the Double Decker Arts Festival. That’s why we chose to highlight them this month!

Let’s introduce you to Visit Oxford’s staff: Kinney Ferris, Executive Director; Laine Mitchell, Partnerships Manager; Nadia Thornton, Director of Sales & Marketing; Hanna Teevan, Digital Content Manager; Lee Ann Stubbs, Double Decker Arts Festival Coordinator; and Leah Veazey, Office Administrator.

Visit Oxford’s staff works hard. It shows in everything they create and do for our wonderful town. And let’s just share a few of the things they DO for our community:
-Provide Group Tours (Double Decker Bus)
-Provide a VERY informative website
-Provide an events calendar that includes BOTH Oxford and Ole Miss events
-Plan, Promote and Work Holly Jolly Holidays
-Work with Oxford Partners to provide Visitor Welcome Bags
-Market our town to visitors, businesses, etc. year-round

These are only a few examples of what Visit Oxford is doing for our community. But probably the most well-known and highest visibility event is the annual Double Decker Arts Festival. Each April, over 65,000 people come to the Oxford Square for live music, fantastic food and over 140 art vendors. It’s our favorite time of year!

Do you know they NEED volunteers to help run the festival each year? You could be a part of Double Decker! Lee Ann recently shared, “We have the volunteer sign up ready for the weekend of activities and would love y’all to be a part of the festival. Please visit the link to sign up. A required training meeting for all volunteers will be held the week of the festival at the Visit Oxford office.  We would love for anyone and everyone to sign up for a shift!”

We are so fortunate to have Visit Oxford promote our wonderful town and provide fun, entertaining and cultural opportunities for residents and visitors alike. THANK YOU Visit Oxford team! We cannot wait for the Double Decker Arts Festival this weekend!
