Neighborhood Business Highlight: El Charro

Oxford is host to some really good Mexican food restaurants. El Charro is the largest one in town and offers an unbelievable setting and always fantastic food. We also love that their owner, Ramiro Munoz, Jr. was just celebrated as one of Oxford’s Top 20 under 40. Munoz’s father opened the first El Charro in Oxford almost 30 years ago and his son is carrying on the tradition. We love that we get to highlight El Charro Oxford this month!

The first El Charro in Oxford opened in 1995 on Jackson Avenue and changed its name to Casa Mexicana in 2007. The family knew they wanted to bring back El Charro because so many people knew the name and the quality of food that was represented by the family name. Munoz’s son opened the new El Charro on Sisk Avenue in the Oxford Commons in 2020. They expanded the menu and the size of the restaurant. They wanted to bring “more Mexico in the decorations, in the food, in the drinks, in the environment and in the atmosphere.” And we LOVE it!

Have a large party? They can take reservations and accommodate larger groups. Use this contact page on their website or call the restaurant at 662-234-9358.

El Charro recently won multiple awards with the Oxford Magazine’s Best of Oxford annual awards. Best International Restaurant, Best Cocktail, Best Margarita, Best Mexican, and Best Curbside Service.

We love that El Charro does their very best to bring parts of Mexico to Oxford, MS! El Charro is located at 699 Sisk Avenue and are open Sunday-Thursday 11:00 am – 9:00 pm and Friday-Saturday 11:00 am – 10:00 pm.
