Neighborhood Business: Estelle’s
This month we are highlighting one of downtown Oxford’s newer restaurants, Estelle’s.
Opened in June 2025 and named after Estelle Faulkner—wife of Oxford’s legendary Nobel laureate, William Faulkner—the restaurant sits right beside Faulkner’s Alley, occupying a space steeped in Southern literary history. Long before it housed a dining room, the address served as a local drugstore where Faulkner personally mailed his early manuscripts out into the world.
Today, the owners view Estelle’s not as a reinvention of the historic address, but as a vibrant continuation of its legacy. Guests can settle in for a leisurely dinner or weekend brunch surrounded by the past, enjoying a thoughtful, seasonal menu anchored in Southern-inspired flavors. Complementing the kitchen is a curated craft cocktail program, along with 1929, an intimate back bar tucked behind an unmarked door that offers an experience entirely its own.
Whether you are pulling up a chair for a slow meal, catching up over Saturday brunch, or slipping into the back bar for a nightcap, Estelle’s marries Oxford’s storied heritage with modern hospitality.
