We are so excited to introduce you to Oxford’s newest coffee shop, Velvet Ditch Coffee! Velvet Ditch Coffee, founded in 2021, is a specialty coffee roaster based in Oxford, Mississippi. They are dedicated to sourcing exceptional single-origin beans and expertly roasting them to highlight each coffee’s natural, distinctive flavors.

With a deep commitment to both their local community and the farmers behind every harvest, Velvet Ditch Coffee upholds the highest quality standards—selecting only beans that score 80 or higher on a 100-point scale. Their mission is to deliver a consistently exceptional coffee experience that leaves a lasting impression in every cup.

The owner of Velvet Ditch Coffee, Lesley Vance Walkington, is deeply connected to Oxford as a Mississippi native. On the Velvet Ditch website, Lesley explains, “Oxford leaves an indelible mark on your heart—you never really want to leave. It’s affectionately known as the ‘Velvet Ditch’ because it envelops you in a warm, inviting charm that’s hard to escape.”

Lesley goes on to say, “In Oxford, it’s effortless to feel at home. Here, hospitality thrives alongside incredible food, soulful music, and an amazing arts scene. I launched Velvet Ditch Coffee to create something truly unique—a community hub where friendships are forged, to offer new jobs for local residents, and fresh opportunities for graduating students.” Lesley adds, “Given our town’s projected 27% growth by 2030, there’s immense potential to support our community’s future.”

Velvet Ditch regularly hosts special events. Most recently, they hosted a Vision Board Creation Class where guests were guided in making a 2026 bingo card filled with small, attainable goals to set the tone for the year ahead!
